Based on an actual advertising event in H-E-B history, Houston sculptor Elaine Bradford has created a funky flock of chickens in colorful custom-fitted crocheted sweaters and large coins. They represent the tagged chickens given away by H-E-B during the 1930’s, good for handfuls of nickels or free groceries. They later gave away cars, mink stoles, trading stamps, and larger cash prizes. The sweaters are tailored for each bird with color combinations featured in popular H-E-B products, such as That Green Sauce and Spicy Whataburger Ketchup. This installation provides a unique art experience for H-E-B customers.
