Roses and Hearts on the Blue Sky depicts a typical Ukrainian flower pattern, familiar to citizens in the Ukraine. Nataliya Scheib aims to draw attention to the Ukraine’s customs through her artwork, while also using the brightly colored composition to bring joy and vitality to this corner of Main Street Square.

Scheib’s multi-media work is very detail-oriented, reflecting on day-to-day modern life from her personal experiences. She refers to layers of history influenced by her Ukrainian upbringing. Scheib’s artworks have been selected to Lawndale Art Center’s Big Show in 2014 and 2015, and her paintings have been exhibited in many respected institutions in the United States and internationally. Scheib’s works was recently featured on streets of Berlin as part of Berlin Art Institute’s public intervention project (September 2015).

On view at the Main Street Marquee — a 40 by 60-foot art space affixed to the façade of 901 Main Street in downtown Houston’s Main Street Square — the work is part of a temporary art project titled Art Blocks, which is aimed at revitalizing a geographically significant pedestrian promenade in the heart of the city through engaging place-making installations and creative programming.
