Houston Chronicle: Discovery Green Celebrates Houston’s Unsung Heroes in Tree Projections

Discovery Green’s 2020 winter public art installation titled “Monuments” by Australian artist Craig Walsh honors Houston Heroes by projecting slow-motion videos of their faces onto the park’s large live oak trees.

Houston Chronicle’s Arts and Culture writer Molly Glentzer describes the installation as:

Walsh’s monuments are visual whispers, not shouts. And trees provide a canvas that’s both fascinating and meaningful, connecting people to nature and reminding us that like the humans being celebrated, they are living, breathing beings that regenerate and heal the world around them.
