Last day to enjoy Field of Light at Discovery Green
If you haven’t enjoyed Field on Light by British artist Bruce Munro at Discovery Green yet, what are you waiting for?
Today, Sunday, February 21, 2016, is officially your last day before the installation dims en route to another destination.
Field of Light is a dazzling art installation by internationally-acclaimed artist Bruce Munro. This art installation is illuminated from dusk to 11 p.m. daily. Hurry, though, because the site is temporary and is only on display along the Brown Promenade until Sunday, February 21.
Munro’s inspiration for the installation transpired while traveling in the Australian Red Dessert. Munro felt very alive and full of joy to be there; he felt as though electricity was rising through the ground. He remembered learning as a child that desserts become very fertile when it rains. His reaction and feelings evoked during this experience went into his sketchbook. The sketch remained on paper on the wall in his studio until a friend told him it would be too expensive and difficult to create.
“There’s no point in spending your life having dreams if you don’t make them come true,” Munro said. “If I can make something that moves somebody in a very positive way, then that’s what art should be about.”
Munro created the installation with the hope of bringing people together to experience joy and witness something familiar in their backyard in a new context.
Field of Light was made possible in part by a grant from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance and with support from Weingarten Art Group.
