A longtime partner of WAG, Midway, approached us to create a permanent mural centerpiece for their newly developed East River, a 150-acre mixed-use development on the banks of Buffalo Bayou in Houston, TX. The goal of the artwork was to complement East River’s design, and enhance the visitor and tenant experience with imagery appropriate for the public and relevant to the neighborhood community.

Inspired by the resiliency of plant life growing through the cracks of old buildings, Jose ‘Meenr’ Arredondo created, ‘Rebirth’, a mural of local flowers bursting through a trompe l’oeil frame, representing cycles of nature.

Featuring plants and flowers found along Buffalo Bayou such as the orange jubilee, white magnolia, autumn sage, and common gold star, the mural represents various stages of growth from bud to full blossom. Just as flowers attract birds and pollinating insects, the mural draws you in with its unique perspective on the vibrancy and resiliency of plant life.
