Charm Field” by Brooklyn-based artists Chiaozza (Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao) is Downtown Somerville Alliance’s inaugural commission for its public art program along Main Street in Somerville, New Jersey. The 7-sculpture series is on view for one year on the lawn of Somerville’s historic county courthouse.

As Natalie Pineiro of DSA states, “We’re excited that our first large-scale public art project is centered around the idea of reclaiming the Courthouse Green as a cherished place for gathering, playing and reflecting.”

Chiaozza conceived this colorful series of playful, abstract shapes thoughtfully placed around the lawn. The artists envision the sculptures as whimsical charms or magical game pieces as if scattered by a mythical giant – inviting curiosity and open-ended play.

This project followed Weingarten Art Group’s authoring a Public Art Master Plan for

Downtown Somerville Alliance, which created a roadmap to enhance the Downtown Somerville experience with innovative and inspiring placemaking and to celebrate its many historical and cultural treasures.
