Kips Bay: Dallas
A strong advocate for the pairing of fine art with elegant design, we partnered with Marcus Mohon Interiors (Austin, Texas) to curate art selections that would compliment the graceful and inviting Breakfast Keeping Room. We carefully selected works that offered a subtle palette and textural dimension to key areas of the space. We shared works that highlighted strong female Texas painters, such as visionary modernist Dorothy Hood’s large scale “Imitation of Upward” and the historic Toni LaSelle’s smaller treasure “Climate of the Heart”.
In addition, we exposed our audience to emerging superstars Josh Sperling and Alec Soth. Sperling’s “Bubbles”, an unexpected interplay of form and dimension, is composed of raw, natural canvas stretched over a carved wall-mounted sculpture, accentuating its line. Soth’s multi-dimensional photographic image is iconic for his style and evokes a passing memory or a glimpse of a stranger in a vibrant setting. Finally, Julia Kunin’s exquisitely-glazed iridescent totemic sculpture is the result of a focus on geologic forms and years of an artist residency in Hungary, mastering the uniquely-beautiful glazing techniques for which the country is known.
The second space, for Wells Design – a legendary Houston design institution, was the elegant Guest Room entry where we installed international art superstar photographer Wolfgang Tillmans’ “Still Life, New York” and two exquisite works on paper – one by Allyson Strafella and the other by Julian Martin.
