“Haha Real” is an original media and sound installation by New York City-based artist Rachel Rossin created for the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern, a former underground reservoir and now public space and arts venue with hundred of concrete columns that are reflected in the surface of the water. This is the third installation curated by Weingarten Art Group for this space.
The artwork transforms this vast industrial relic into a unique world, drawing on innovative technologies, such as video game engines and AI, and taking visitors on a journey inspired by the classic children’s story The Velveteen Rabbit invoking themes of transformation, love, and loss in our technologically driven world. An immersive soundscape by Houston musician Frewuhn adds to the awe-inspiring experience and takes advantage of the Cistern’s 17 second reverberation. The project is on view February – November 2024.
