• How can we help?

New to art fairs? Listen to this valuable advice

On a Great Day Houston segment on KHOU, Weingarten Art Group principal Lea Weingarten shares some insightful advice for art fair attendees and art collectors — particularly as the Houston Fine Art Fair at NRG Center is in full swing through Sept. 12 and the Texas Contemporary art fair is just around the corner.

Reporter Courtney Perna chatted with Lea Weingarten about the rise in awareness for Latin American artists and Latin American art as well as what a visitor should consider in perusing the collection of international galleries, museums, nonprofits, installations and more.

Lea Weingarten’s recommendations:

  • Educate yourself and read about the art that you’re attracted to
  • Talk to gallerists and curators about why they’ve decided to invest in those artists
  • Set a budget, because no one likes to feel as though they’ve overpaid for an acquisition

Houston Fine Art Fair description (from the event’s website): HFAF aspires to reflect Houston’s sophisticated and diverse collecting practices, where art enthusiasts will encounter an international cross-section of works in all media-from past to present. The fair will feature modern and contemporary masters, mid-career and emerging artists from around the globe. HFAF also features memorable on-site installations and special projects, plus an invigorating three day program (September 10-12) of panel discussions designed for both novice and experienced collectors.

HFAF will continue showcasing the finest in contemporary art from all corners of the world including the Americas, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe. HFAF showcased a record 85 renowned galleries from 14 countries. In efforts to design an international event for a sophisticated multi-cultural city, nearly half the exhibitors were from outside of America. In keeping with the Houston’s cosmopolitan collector tastes and context, the fair will again span the globe to recruit and showcase vibrant cross cultural contemporary art genres.
